PUBLISHER BREAKDOWN AND COMMENTARY on the AMAZON RETAILER SALES DATA 2018 ANNUAL REPORT
The following is a commentary on our annual report which can be found here:
https://wonderworldcomics.com/amazon-retailer-sales-data-2018-annual-report/
It is notable that, of all the books that made our lists, only 23 publishers are represented. The top ten publishers from our rankings are as follows:
The top ten:
1 | Marvel | 239 Books Ranked |
2 | DC | 32 Books Ranked |
3 | Image | 17 Books Ranked |
4 | Boom! | 9 Books Ranked |
5 | Devil’s Due | 4 Books Ranked |
6 | Dark Horse | 3Books Ranked |
7 | Lion’s Forge | 2 Books Ranked |
7 | Action Lab | 2 Books Ranked |
7 | Dynamite | 2 Books Ranked |
7 | IDW | 2 Books Ranked |
This rankings are based only the number of titles that appear on our lists, and do not necessarily correspond to any units total or gross sales ranking for each publisher.
It is notable that Marvel’s top seller was The Weeknd Presents Starboy #1, a comic book scripted by a rapper, about a character that is not part of the Marvel Universe. This shows that a comic that appeals to a non-traditional comic market can be a top seller. Though this single outstanding title was a true star, with a high unit sales and gross ranking, Marvel’s mainstream superhero books that dominate the list overall.
The other top Marvel performer was “Warlock By Jim Starlin: The Complete Collection”, a trade paperback that we purchased in bulk through a Marvel clearance sale. We would like to thank Marvel for making their clearance books available to local comic shops, unlike their largest competitor, who liquidates their books to Ollie’s Discount outlet. Clearanced paperback’s make up a large portion of our ranked Marvel books, and if that competitor would make their liquidation stock available to local comic ships, they would undoubtedly also be a significant part of our sales.
DC is second, trailing far behind Marvel with 32 titles to Marvel’s 239. Batman Damned #1 was their topped performer; this magazine format horror-themed comic that introduced DC’s new “Black Label” imprint made the news due to a page spread in which a nude Bruce Wayne shows a bit more than readers expect to see of a mainstream superhero character. Also notable are several Batman/ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics that made the list. Mad Max Fury Road #2 was a strong seller; issue probably would have ranked if hadn’t sold out of it before the beginning of 2018. For the high performance of this title, we have to thank other retailers who cut their orders after the first issue, creating the shortage that fed our sales.
Of Image Comics’ 17 ranking titles, Walking Dead Back Issues, eight were Walking Dead issues, and of those eight, five were published before 2017, demonstrating the importance of back issues.
Boom studies made the list with 9 ranked titles, 6 of which are Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers single issues, of which three were variant covers of issue #25, part one of the landmark “Shattered Grid” story line.
Devil’s Due’s four ranked books consist entirely of back issue paperbacks that we bought on liquidation when the small publisher had financial problems several years ago. The two Voltron paperbacks were dependable sellers, boosted by the recent Dreamworks TV series on streaming services, and the release of new Voltron comics by Lion Forge.
Dark Horse’s ranking books included two issue of the Gerard Way’s Umbrella Academy series, and the Empowered Vol. 8 paperback.
Action Lab ranks on the strength of two Zombie Tramp comics. The Zombie Tramp series has generally been a strong seller for us, but that sales volume is divided into multiple issues with multiple variant covers, which are not well represented in the ranking methodology used to compile this report. If we were to create a series based top 100 list ranking the total sales of all of the issues in each series, Zombie Tramp would place very high on the list. If you are not familiar with the title, it is a comedic horror book aimed at an adult audience, with cartoonish story art and cheesecake cover art by multiple artists.
Dynamite Entertainment’s ranked titles were both John Wick #1; the Main “A” cover and the “C” Photo Covers are both good sellers, and there is a renewed interest every time IDW publishes a new issue on their very slow release schedule.
IDW’s books included a back stock Magic the Gathering Comic, which came poly bagged and included a playable card; many buyers probably bought the comic just to get the card.
Lion Forge’s ranked books were Rolled and Told #0 and #1; a comic-format series containing supplemental material for the Dungeons & Dragons role playing game. The #0 book was a promotional giveaway sent free to comic shops, and Wonderworld was one of the few stores to attempt to sell it on Amazon. We ordered the subsequent issues based the on strength of the sales for the Zero issue, and they have been good performers for us.
The other 21 publishers that made the list were 12 Gauge (publisher of the Boondock Saints Comic), Terry Moore’s Abstract Studio Inc., Albatross Funnybooks, Archie (their Sabrina comic made the list), Autism at Face Value (publisher of a steampunk themed educational comic), Bongo Comics (publisher of Mylo Xyloto), the late lamented Desperado Publishing who published a Clive Barker book that performed will this year, Humanoids, Inc., the Marvel/DC partnership that published the Marvel vs. DC Comic, Oni Press (Invader Zim), Pow! Entertainment (Stan Lee’s Manga publisher), Slave Labor Graphics (Jhonen Vasquez’s “I Feel Sick”), and the Topps card company, who’s 1990’s foray into comics publishing produced several Jurassic Park comics that sell well when we can get them.
AMAZON RETAILER SALES DATA 2018 Annual Report
Sales data was compiled by one retailer, with sales exceeding on average of 50 units per day, of all 2018 sales on the Amazon.com third party sales platform. Data was compiled taking the top 100 sales in each of 5 categories and sales types of items in separate sales groups. This data is released in order to effectively show the sales of comics outside the usual sales platform for Comic Books, These platforms are traditionally Brick and Mortar Comic Book Shops (sales through Local Comic Shops (LCSs)), convention sales and on other online sales platforms such as eBay, Facebook and online stores. The prices are determined by an aggregate of all sales of a product, averaged across the years sales of that ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) across any different SKUs (Stock Keeping Unit) that might have existed for that ASIN. In many incidents multiple SKUs were used for items listed at different times across the life span of that particular ASIN and when that happens those would be compiled together to form these sales figures, average prices and total gross sales figures.

List #5 Graphic Novel and Collected editions both Soft cover and Hard Cover by Units. This will show total sales by units for all Graphic Novels, Collected Editions of soft covers and hard covers. This list needs a slight explanation. As a Seller of Comic Books and related merchandise, the retailer purchases close out merchandise from Publishers, Closed or Closing Comic Book Stores and Comic Book collectors at significantly refused wholesale prices. Many of the Gross Average Prices for these units are far below retail MSRP (Manufactures Suggested Retail Price) and in many cases below even industry Wholesale Prices. It shows the effective sales price in volume for in demand product and what it sells for in a competitive market. Many times these prices are below the Primary Amazon Prime offering price but selling quite actively at the lower price. But it conveys the idea that even when a manufacturer or publisher liquidates a product from its back stock there is still a very profitable and lucrative secondary market to customers through the Amazon.com sales platform.

Wonderworld Comics is proud to reveal our limited edition of Marvel’s new Venom #1 Greg Horn Wonderworld Comics Store Exclusive Variant. This scarce Venom #1 Wonderworld Comics exclusive Greg Horn variant is inspired The Amazing Spider-Man #121, the landmark issue that tells the story of The Night Gwen Stacy Died.

We believe that it will be much in demand.

Detroit Fanfare was my first con…
…and I loved it.
Part of that was because it was very low-stress for me; Dennis and Larry made sure that my job was limited to relaxing, hanging out, checking out all of the awesome things available, and occasionally interviewing some of the media guests. I also had my very own panel about gender in comics. My first con and I got a panel.
This is what is so amazing about being part of a small, local business and a community that’s as open and accepting as the comics community. I’ve been welcomed with open arms all over, and even during my interviews with comic world veterans, the guests were excited that I was a new reader and had a fresh perspective.
I can easily say that Artist’s Alley was my favorite place to hang out. I got a LOT of things there from a LOT of artists and creators who, I think (in my very limited experience), are talented and promising. I interviewed a few of the artists there, so keep an eye out for those interviews as they go up on the site in the coming days/weeks.
The Bizarre Bazaar was my second-favorite place; it’s great to see people making their own crafts and art and selling it at seriously amazing and reasonable prices. I expected everything to cost a lot more, mostly because my experience with artists is limited to galleries and “professional” shows. But the people who come to Detroit Fanfare, while entirely professional, are obviously not doing this for the money; they’re doing it because they love it, and that shows in all of their work. I spoke with many people in the Bazaar and I’ll be doing a story about them, too. Keep an eye out!
Finally, we get to the main room. The dealer room, where most of the media guests were and where retailers were. I won’t lie: I was so overwhelmed that I avoided that room at all costs. I checked out everything I could and even got a signed Revival print from Tim Seeley and a signed copy of the Hack/Slash Mercy Sparx crossover by Josh Blaylock. But there was just so much going on everywhere around me and I didn’t even know where to start when it came to checking out all of the comics and trades available.
I had a ridiculous amount of fun over the course of the weekend, and I was completely exhausted and pretty sure my feet just wanted to fall off my body by the end of it all. It was entirely worth it. I can’t possibly thank the entire staff and Wonderworld Comics and the amazing con promoters (Gary and Tony and Dennis, you’re the best!) for giving me this experience and welcoming me into their community with open arms.
Also, I did dress up as Red Sonja for the costume party. But it was absolutely freezing and I was wearing chain mail, so I kept my cloak on for most of the time. But pictures were taken! And I’m sure they’ll be up soon enough.
Brian O’Halloran Signing FREE at Detroit Fanfare by WonderWorldComics.com
Brian O’Halloran, the Master of Ceremonies Emeritus for Detroit Fanfare Comic Con 2013, will be signing free autographs all weekend during Detroit’s Coolest Comic Con through a sponsorship by WonderWorldComics.com! I will let that sink in for a moment.
What’s Going On?
For months, people have been asking Dennis and I about what WonderWorldComics.com would do for Detroit Fanfare Comic Con this year. We debated back and forth about different options, but we both agreed that it would be a great gift to everyone to give a guest who could sign free all weekend long.
Why Brian O’Halloran?
Why would we choose to have Brian O’Halloran sign free autographs all weekend long during Detroit Fanfare Comic Con? I used to have a dog named Dante who was named after Brian’s most famous character from Clerks. It just fits.
The Signing
Brian O’Halloran will autograph one item per person during Detroit Fanfare Comic Con weekend. People spend hours in line at some conventions and spend through the teeth to get one or two autographs. Through this sponsorship by WonderWorldComics.com, you can be guaranteed at least one autograph, no matter how much money you have in your pocket. Detroit’s Coolest Comic Con just got a little cooler.
Spread the Word!
Make sure your friends and family know about the free autographs from Brian O’Halloran the weekend of Detroit Fanfare Comic Con. I would hate to hear about someone who did not know about the opportunity until after the convention closed for the year.

Villain Month Allocation Cuts Deeper Than Expected
An alarming discovery was made at Wonderworld Comics today when next week’s shipping invoice came across and it was found that the Villain Month allocation for week four will be deeper than previously stated for three of the titles. As of this writing, there has been no notification on the issue from DC Comics as to why the Villain Month allocation cuts are deeper than retailers had planned for.
Lower Invoice
Before Villain Month began, retailers knew how many issues of each of the 3D covers they would be allocated. Most retailers attempted to fill in the gaps through orders of the 2D covers. The first three weeks of allocations matched up with the totals our store had been previously been warned about. The fourth week is not.
What is Getting Allocated?
Bane, Parasite, and Doomsday are all getting cut deeper than previously reported to retailers. According to a message which is going out to retailers, they will receive 93 percent of what was promised on Bane #1, 90 percent of what was promised on Parasite #1, and 84 percent of what was promised on Doomsday #1.
Discouraging Timing
The message from DC Comics about the further Villain Month allocation is being received after the shipping invoice for next week. Retailers were forced to ask questions before the needed information was passed along by DC Comics. This is simply wrong for business. Instead of sending out something which will flag retailers, DC Comics should have sent out the information about the further Villain Month allocation first.
This Month Hurts
This month has already hurt comic book retailers enough. Hopefully, DC Comics (and the other comic book publishers) learn valuable lessons this month on making sure that they have enough product to cover the hype and to focus on communication with retailers. Constant communication brings strength, dissipates fears, and helps retailers do the job they are supposed to do effectively and effeciantly.
New Comics Bracket Tournament Coming!
“Hey Larry, I can’t wait until the next WWC March Madness.”
“Can we have a March Madness every month?”
“When are you going to run another comic book tournament?”
I hear statements like this almost every week. I have received countless messages requesting another comic book tournament like we had back in March. While I can’t see having a WWC March Madness Tournament in another month that March, I am interested in having another comics bracket tournament.
We are going to work out the rules this week and should have the brackets formulated within the next few weeks along with the official start date. We will have some new rules and some new “contestants” in the tournament. Don’t worry, there will also be prizes involved as well. This will not replace the larger WWC March Madness Tournament, but should give you enough of a rush to hold you over to the next one.
Adding More Correspondents, Writers, and Investigators…Soon
Very soon, WonderWorldComics.com will be announcing new correspondents, writers, and investigators. The response to WonderWorldComics.com has been huge, and it is time for us to go through another expansion. Our traffic rankings have exceeded our expectations, and it is time for us to reach in more directions than before.
The goal of this site is to give a voice to the comic book community, while helping people improve their collections. Those collections are getting stronger and your voice in the industry is getting louder!

Villain Month Allocation Rage: Save it Til Later
Here we are on the eve of the first day of the September War, and I am not filled with the excitement which should be coming with the official start of one of the biggest months of the year for comic book readers and collectors. Instead, I am filled with compassion for comic book store owners across the country and worry about some of the misplaced rage they might have to face due to the Villain Month allocation.
Last week, I posted an article about why September 4, 2013 will be one of the worst days ever for comic book stores. We have the DC Comics Villain Month allocation which will be felt across the country. We have the fact that shipments of comics are coming a day later than normal due to the holiday which just passed. Many stores across the country will see lines of readers and collectors for product which they just won’t have due to the shortage of the 3D covers.
I am making this plea as a fellow reader and collector. I have already heard of people planning to go in late to work tomorrow or scheduling a day off in order to be one of the first in line at their local comic book store. Please, do not direct your anger at comic book store owners. Save it to direct towards those who actually caused the Villain Month allocation through poor planning.
Each store has come up with its own plan on how to distribute the few 3D covers they will receive due to the Villain Month allocation. Bleeding Cool posted an article last week which listed some of the plans comic book store owners have devised. Even if you do not agree with the plan your favored comic book store owner came up with, please understand that this we the best he, she, they could come up with the meet the demands of customers. Save your rage for after you leave the store.
Save your rage until you get home and post it online. Gear the rage towards making sure comic book publishers get the message that you are as mad as Hell and you’re not going to take it anymore. Make sure that every single publisher knows that if demand is going to be created for a product, there damn well better be enough supply to suffice the masses. Let’s make sure something like the Villain Month allocation never happens again.
September 4, 2013: Worst Day Ever for Comic Book Stores?
Wednesday, September 4, 2013, will be a day that owners of comic book stores will remember for a long time. For many comic book stores, it will be a perfect storm that they will pray will never happen again. It is a day which might break many comic book stores around the country.
September 4, 2013 Issue #1
The Villain Month allocation is hitting most comic book stores hard. Wednesday is the day they have to explain to the majority of their empty-handed customers about why they cannot get the collectible cover they want. There is going to be anger, accusations, and sadness. Owners and workers are going to have to deal with this.
September 4, 2013 Issue #2
The Wednesday will be the Wednesday after a holiday, so the Diamond shipments will hit stores a day later than usual. There will be a mad rush to get the comics out on the shelves as quickly as possible. In many cases, customers are going to have to be told to come back later to get their issues – if they will be able to get them at all. This will be another series of blows hitting the workers and owners of comic book stores all over.
September 4, 2013 Issue #3
Along with over 25 Villain Month issue coming out on the fateful day, there are other big titles hitting as well. Forever Evil #1, X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1, the Star Wars Lucas Draft #1, Infinity #2, Superior Spider-Man #17, and many other big titles all all hitting on the same day. For many comic book stores, this will be the biggest shipment they have ever gotten on a day they have been dreading for weeks. This will have to be processed asap.
September 4, 2013 Issue #4
On top of all of this, I would not be surprised by long lines before the comic book stores open. Fans are going to line up for their chance to get the titles they want. So comic book stores are going to have to deal with long lines for a late shipment which will not have the amount of product they ordered for one of the biggest comic book events in years.

Diamond Getting into Tchochke and Worse (Updated)
Diamond (along with its sister company Diamond Select) held the Diamond Retailers Summit before C2E2 which was was attended by retailers, their workers, and some of the top minds in the comic book industry from every publishing company. I was disturbed by some of the new product which will be hitting the Diamond Previews catalogue in the upcoming months. Here comes the tchotchke.
Diamond Kitchenware: Really?
Diamond is expanding their kitchenware line so get ready for more forks, knives, pizza cutters, and salt shakers emblazoned with the face of your favorite superhero or sci-fi character. The sheer number of characters which could be placed on these items puts a retailer (i.e. comic book store owner) at a disadvantage. You might hear one fret about only having room for one pack of ice trays and not knowing if the space should go towards trays with the likeness of the Tardis or a Stormtrooper or maybe Superman…no, no…Batman…or?
Comic Book Stores the Next Party City?
Diamond Previews will begin carrying party favors just like you would find in the big party stores. You can get Spider-Man paper plates and napkins. I am sure Avengers piñatas will be on the market soon along with Aquaman balloons and Green Lantern whistles. Large chains like Party City are able to purchase these types of products for less due to the number of stores involved and the number of sales. Comic book stores cannot compete with that and would be pushed out of this particular market due to the cost and selection differential.
“Great Kid, Don’t Get Penisy”
The most disturbing point about the possible tchotchke-fication of comic book stores by Diamond comes in the form of the “Happy Man Bottle Opener” and the “Happy Man Bottle Topper.” These little guys have an extra member standing erect between the legs and apparently will be displayed in upcoming issues of Diamond Previews.
I, in good conscience, cannot suggest we carry these phallic items in our Detroit area comic book store. I, in good conscience, cannot hand a previews to a child to look at if these phallic items are displayed inside. Should retailers now place an “18 and Over” sign next to Previews so readers know when Diamond is displaying items we don’t agree with? All I can think of are the immortal works of Peter Griffin, “Great Kid, Don’t Get Penisy.”
Please stand with us and send a message to Diamond Previews to drop the “Happy Man” line.
UPDATE
The current issue of Diamond Previews (#299) has Happy Man in it. Now, retailers have to make the decision to make the issues available to children or not. We should all be discouraged by the thought that there are some who would wish to turn the all ages comic book stores into Spencer Gifts stores. It is a sad day to think that the publishing companies are trying to be more inviting to children while Diamond is going to try to get stores to sell phallic symbols.

Server Migration Causing WWC Loading Issues
If you are reading this, chances are good that you are one of the lucky ones right now. As I stated earlier on the Facebook page, our web service company is migrating to new servers, so this site will be up and down over the next few days. If you get some type of error message when you try to get on the site, don’t worry – we have not gone anywhere.
The time frame given by our server company places full resolution sometime around Friday morning (7/19). Between now and then, I will post when I can as server lags will impact the back end of this site more than the front end. Sorry about any issues this causes, but it is out of our control.

San Diego Comic-Con International: Our Presence There
I have received a few emails over the last week asking if I am going to be at San Diego Comic-Con International. Sadly, I will not be this year because of various other plans I have set over the next month. Don’t worry, the website and store will have a presence at the event this year.
Who is Going?
Dennis Barger, co-owner of Wonderworld Comics will be in attendance this year. He will be messaging me with any important information you need to know about and will be taking as many cosplay pictures as he can for our Cosplay Photo Gallery.
Don’t Forget
Wonderworld Comics has the esteemed honor this year of being nominated for a Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award. This honor have gone a step further, and we have been named as one of the 15 finalists for the award. The award will be given at San Diego Comic-Con International and Dennis will be there.
What This Means
The Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award is an international award which means Wonderworld Comics is being considered as one of the best comic book stores in the world. This is not simply a reflection of ownership and the staff. This is also a reflection of the great customers we have and the great friends we have made over the years through the store. Congratulate yourselves as this honor is as equally yours as it is ours.
My Task
I am going to weed through all of the news comic out of San Diego over the next week and give you my opinions on the most important and impactful items which you need to know about. Keep your eyes on this site for the information which will impact you, us, and the comic book industry the most.
Alex Barger Representing Wonderworld Comics at Yu-Gi-Oh! North American World Championship Qualifier
Alexander Barger, son of Wonderworld Comics co-owner Dennis Barger, is representing Wonderworld Comics at the Yu-Gi-Oh! North American World Championship Qualifier in Chicago! The YuGi-Oh! North American World Championship Qualifier is an invite-only event which Alex qualified for by placing third at a qualifying event earlier this year.
What Could Happen?
If Alex places in one of the top six positions at the Yu-Gi-Oh! North American World Championship Qualifier, he will win travel and accommodations to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championships later this year in Las Vegas, Nevada. If Alex places in 1st place, Alex will be deemed the Yu-Gi-Oh! North American Champion!
Even being invited to the Yu-Gi-Oh! North American World Championship is an extreme honor for the young man. This is sure to be an experience he will remember for the rest of his life.
Want to Compete Against Alex?
Alex gets his practice in the weekly tournaments held at our Detroit area location. You can learn more about our tournaments by checking out the Yu-Gi-Oh! Page on this site.

The entire staff of Wonderworld Comics, and those of us at WonderWorldComics.com are all pushing for Alex and hope he does the best he can do!
Wonderworld Comics Book Club Week #1: Hawkeye
If you missed Wonderworld Comic’s Comic Book Book Club (to be referred to hereafter as WCCBBC) this week, you missed a great conversation and a lot of fun! We read Hawkeye: My Life As a Weapon (Volume 1). Here are some of the fun discussion topics you missed:
1.) The art of Hawkeye. We all agree that we enjoy the minimalist style, because it lets you become more emotionally invested in the characters instead of distracted by really detailed artistic renderings of scenes. The art in each panel shows you enough so that you know what’s going on, but little enough so that the dialogue is necessary.
2.) Clint Barton and Kate Bishop are fantastic characters in that they’re both three-dimensional and relatable. Their banter is smart, funny, and friendly, and the two of them play off each other perfectly.
3.) Hawkeye is wonderfully devoid of the male gaze, which is something you don’t often see in mainstream, popular comics. There are no gratuitous T/A shots and the only woman you actually see Clint sexually involved with is actually pretty androgynous when you first see her.
4.) Some side conversation took place regarding Disney’s buying of Marvel Studios and the subsequent worries that arise. Will Disney steer clear of more mature themes that Marvel tackles? Will this ruin some of the darker back-stories of some of our favorite characters? In an effort to appeal to the widest audience possible, you can all but guarantee that Disney will be keeping Marvel at a solid PG-13 rating. Will this take away from any of the characters and stories we already know and love?
5.) We also had a short side conversation on ABC’s upcoming series Agents of SHIELD. We’re hoping we’ll see cameos from both Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff, since they’re not just Avengers, but also SHIELD agents.
Needless to say, a fun time was had by all. Next week, we’ll be reading volume one of Saga. Stop by the store to pick up a copy at a special, book club price. We meet Sundays at 1:00 at Wonderworld Comics, and we hope to see you there!
Joe Pruett, Comic Creator and Friend Hospialized
It was reported last night that Joe Pruett, comic book writer, editor, and publisher, has been hospitalized due to a possible stroke. The information was posted on his Facebook page from his wife, Valarie Pruett Smith.
Joe Pruett has worked on such titles as Negative Burn, Kilroy is Here, The Nameless, Cable, X-Men Unlimited, and the Art of Brian Bolland. He is the founder of Desperado Publishing.
Joe is a good friend of Wonderworld Comics and on behalf of store ownership, and staff, we hope Joe a speedy recovery and hope his family finds the strength they need to deal with this difficult and wrenching situation.
Huge Week at Wonderworld Comics in Taylor!
We are having a huge week this week at Wonderworld Comics. Finishing touches are being placed on the huge week that we have in store for you. Just check out the huge events this week.
Tyler Mane, Scares that Care, and the Compound Fracture Tour
Tuesday will find Tyler Mane in the store in support of both Scares that Care and his new movie, Compound Fracture. He will be signing autographs for the charity which helps sick children and women with breast cancer. At the same time, he will be discussing Compound Fracture. You will have the chance to meet the man behind the mask of Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s Halloween movies. He was also Sabertooth in X-Men. He will star as Michael Wolffsen in Compound Fracture.
To learn more about the event, check the event page on Facebook.
To learn more about Compound Fracture, please follow this link.
More information on Scares that Care here.
Dave Santia
Speed Painter Dave Santia will return to Wonderworld Comics on Tuesday and he will have his easel and brushes with him. He will be creating two secret pieces of art in honor of Tyler Mane. Make sure you don’t miss him because he fills the house every time he paints. He mixes rock and roll, pop culture, and his ability to paint faster than anyone you have seen to create masterful works of art.
Josh Blalock, Devil’s Due Publishing, and the Merch Sparx Tour
Josh Blalock, founder and publisher of Devil’s Due Publishing, will be at the store this week with his Mercy Sparx tour. The tour will officially be at Wonderworld Comics on Wednesday, but he will also be stopping by the store Tuesday evening to check out the Tyler Mane event.
Mercy Sparx is a character born somewhere between Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell. She is on a mission from God to hunt down angels hiding out on Earth. Josh will be talking about the project along with other projects from Devil’s Due Publishing including Halloween: Nightdance (one of my favorite Gems of the Warehouse).
You can learn more about Devil’s Due Publishing by following this link.
Big Releases at Wonderworld Comics
Two BIG issues come out this Wednesday when we see the release of Age of Ultron #10ai and Batman/Superman #1. We have a handful of Batman/Superman variants coming out as well. These are two of the most anticipated titles of the summer, so make sure you stop by to check them out.
Other issues of note coming out are Atomic Robo: The Savage Sword of Dr. Dinosaur #1 (of 5) will be coming from Red 5, Godzilla Rulers of the Earth #1 from IDW, Grimm Fairy Tales Annual 2013 from Zenescope, the final Hack/Slash Trade Paperback will be in from Image, Superman Vol. 1: What Price Tomorrow from DC Comics, Uncanny #1 from Dynamite, and the Trinity War will begin playing out in the pages of Justice League Dark, Justice League of America, and Justice League.
You can see other titles releasing this week by following this link.
This is going to be an epic week for the store that many of us will remember for years to come. Of course, you are encouraged to cosplay during the big events this week. Your picture might end up on this site. See you at Wonderworld Comics this week!
Why You Should Attend Tyler Mane’s Appearance at Wonderworld Comics
As you probably know by now, Tyler Mane of Compound Fracture, Rob Zombie’s Halloween series, and X-Men, will be appearing at our Detroit area comic book store on Tuesday, June 25. There are many reasons why you should plan on stopping in.
Not as Crowded as a Convention
Since there will not be as many people in Wonderworld Comics as would be at a convention, you should expect to have at least an extra moment or two with Tyler Mane. We have all been to conventions where the lines are so long that we can only spend a few moments with our favored stars. With the store appearance, you will not have to flash by his table in a matter of seconds before being ushered along. This type of opportunity with a star does not happen often.
Learn About a Movie Before Others Do
With Tyler Mane stopping by the store, you have the opportunity to learn about Compound Fracture before the mainstream viewers do. You can be that gal or guy who knows intimate details about the movie others might not because you were able to hear a star of the film talking about it.
It Supports a Good Cause
Scares that Care is a non-profit which helps sick children and women with breast cancer. You can rest well on Tuesday night knowing that you helped make a sick child’s life a little more manageable. You can rest easy knowing that there is a woman out there who is getting the support she needs to fight her battle with breast cancer.
The Cosplay
Yes, there will be cosplay at this event. While cosplay is not a requirement, you are encouraged (if you want to) to dress up as one of your favorite characters from one of Tyler Mane’s movies. Who will you be?
You Know Interesting Things Happen
Those of you who have been at Wonderworld Comics during one of our events know that they are a ton of fun. Tyler Mane’s promotion of Compound Fracture in support of Scares that Care will not be an exception to our rule that everyone who attends should have as much fun as legally possible. Stop by, have some fun, and go home happy knowing that you did something good for someone.
Please take a moment to RSVP to the event through Facebook.
Superman Day at Wonderworld Comics
Everyone who stopped into Wonderworld Comics today for Superman Day was apparently happy they came. It was a blast today with cake, costumes, cute kids, comics, captivating discussions, complimentive customer service, commissioned art by comic creators, and Jay Towers. Below, you will find many of the pictures taken during the event.

Less of Age of Ultron #10 Coming Than Ordered
Our Detroit comic shop has been notified that we will not be receiving as many Age of Ultron #10 issues as we initially ordered. Diamond has reduced our order of Age of Ultron #10 by 13 percent. Luckily, our orders for variants have not been impacted.
Why is this Happening?
Chances are good that there were more orders for Age of Ultron #10 than Marvel was expecting. While I have not heard conformation, I would believe that other store’s orders will be impacted by this allocation as well.
Importance of Age of Ultron #10
If you have forgotten, or if you have not been following the Age of Ultron story, Age of Ultron #10 wraps up the story which has been building for a few months and will introduce Angela (from Spawn) to the Marvel Universe. We have already been told that she will become a major player in the universe, so there are many collectors which will want to get their hands on the issue. Marvel is trying to keep the story so secret that they have taken the step of polybagging each issue to keep the readers in suspense to the last possible moment.
What does this Mean for Me?
Well, if you are planning on getting Age of Ultron #10, you had better make sure you come to our Detroit area comic shop as early as you can. Apparently, supply is not on par with the demand so there is a good chance this crucial issue in the Marvel NOW continuity is going to go fast. It might mean that those who wait will not have the opportunity to have a first printing of the comic they have been waiting for throughout the first nine issues I the series. Age of Ultron #10 poses to be one of the most critical issues published by Marvel this year. Will you be able to pick one up?
Tyler Mane Will be at Wonderworld Comics on June 25!
Tyler Mane, who played Michael Myers in both of Rob Zombie’s remakes of Halloween, will be appearing at Wonderworld Comics in Taylor, MI on June 25, 2013. He will sign autographs from 5:00pm – 7:00pm and will be promoting his upcoming movie entitled Compound Fracture. Proceeds from this autograph session will support the Scares that Care charity.
Tyler Mane will star as Michael Wolffsen in the 2013 movie Compound Fracture. The character takes his family to visit his estranged and eccentric father (played by Muse Watson) who is building an unassailable compound to calm his unsetting dementia. As the film progresses, the stars will learn of a ghost named William (played by Derek Mears) which haunts the compound as carnage of the characters begins. Escaping the compound will become as much of a menace as the spirit. To find out more about Compound Fracture, please follow this link to the movie’s official website.
Tyler Mane has also stared as Michael Myers in Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Rob Zombie’s Halloween II. He is also known for his portrayal of Sabretooth in the first X-Men movie and for his portrayal as Ajax in Troy. To learn more about Tyler Mane, please follow this link to his IMDB posting.
Scares that Care is a non-profit organization which utilizes the horror fan base to help various charities. The organization provides money, toys, and other items to help sick children. Scares that Care is also the primary supporter of “Scares for Pairs” which helps women fighting breast cancer and I Helped Kane (partnered with Kane Hodder of Friday the 13th) to help children suffering from serious burns. You can learn more about Scares that Care by following this link to their website.
New Comic Book Book Club Coming to Wonderworld Comics
Wonderworld Comics will now be hosting a comic book book club!Oh, you read that right.
Thanks to a fortuitous Facebook post and subsequent ramblings, Wonderworld Comics is going to be hosting a book club: comic book style!
What and When?
Our first meeting will be on Sunday, July 6 (time TBA). We’ll be discussing Hawkeye: Volume 1. If you don’t already have a copy of the trade paperback, stop by Wonderworld Comics and pick it up at a very special, book club member discounted price. Just stop in, let one of the fantastic workers know you’re interested, and they’ll lead the way to the comic book of the week.
If you’ve never been in any sort of book club before, don’t worry. And if you’ve never really been into comic books before, don’t worry about that, either! You’re going to be in great company.
Here’s the way it works
You show up.
People will be there.
You’ve all read the same thing, so everyone knows what everyone else is talking about.
You discuss the comic book. ANYTHING you want to talk about, talk about it!
The First Session
For this first session, I’ll put together a list of discussion points to start out on. It’s definitely not a required talking points list, and varying from the list is not only expected, it’s encouraged. The list will just be our diving board; the pool is Olympic-sized!
If you have any questions, just stop in or call. We’d love to get a great group together and discuss a new comic either every week or every two weeks. And as the club grows, so will our guest speakers! Any suggestions or requests for discussion? Leave ’em in a comment and let’s get this going!
Milestone For WWC – Next Contest Coming Soon…
WonderWorldComics.com has passed a major milestone, and I am going to celebrate this victory with you, because this milestone was passed because of you.
When We Started WonderWorldComics.com
When we first converted WonderWorldComics.com to a comic book news and information site, the site was rated at over 18.8 million in the world and was unranked in the U.S. which means we had a national rank of over 2.5 million. This site ranking (provided by Alexa, which is a website ranking site), meant that there were 18.8 million websites in the world which had more traffic than we did.
The Challenge
Over the years, I have met many online writers and correspond with many of them. They told me that it would be next to impossible to raise a website’s rank up to 100,000 in the U.S. without spending thousands of dollars on advertising.
Where We Stand Now
After a little less than four month of running WonderWorldComics.com as a comic book news and information site, our rankings came in this morning. We are currently ranked at 711,692 in the world and 99,756 in the United States. This site did what many believed was impossible.
Why We Are Here
The growth and increased popularity of WonderWorldComics.com is because of the customers and fans who check it out every day and look forward (for some odd reason or another) to seeing what we have to say. I thank you for this continued growth and look forward to the growth in the future.
The New WonderWorldComics.com Poll
Over the next few days, you will see a poll on the side of the site. Let me know what type of prize you would like to have. I will officially announce the next contest at the Superman Day events.

Have You Seen Wonderworld Comics’ Eisner Nomination Video Yet?
By now, you might have already seen the Will Eisner Spirit of Retailing Award nomination video from Wonderworld Comics. If you have not, you can see it by following this link.
The staff at Wonderworld Comics had a ton of fun making this video and are proud to have the opportunity to submit this video in the first place. To me, the Will Eisner Spirit of Retailing Award could be likened to a Comic Book Store Hall of Fame. This an extreme honor not only to the ownership and staff of a comic book store, but to the customers and fans as well.
I was proud of the job my daughter did (Maia – the little girl with glasses). I am also happy that any speaking part I had was edited out of the video. I may not have a problem typing whatever comes to mind, or speaking before crowds, but I have never liked being on camera.
At Wonderworld Comics, we do what we can to make sure your shopping experience is as enjoyable as possible. Many of you have become friends of the store or of particular workers over the years. We thank you because you make the store a living, breathing, and growing entity which is being globally recognized.
Comments Reopening On WWC!
After many requests, much research, and a ton of trail an error – the ability to comment on articles on WonderWorldComics is rolling out once again. Please read this post if you are going to be commenting.
Note, this posting is originally dated 7/19/2013. By the time you are reading this, some of the changes expected to take place should have already happened.
Why We Blocked Comments
We were forced to block the ability to comment on articles because we were inundated with spam comments. I know you don’t want to read through dozens of spam comments to see what people think, so I had to figure out a way to block them.
What You Need To Do
If you are interested in commenting, you are going to have to register with the site. There is no way around that. These are the steps which need to be taken:
Commenting Rules
This is a PG-13 site. Please don’t swear, harass, make statements against someone’s race, origin, sex, sexual orientation, or religion. It is fine to rip on people such as Dan DiDio.
If I catch you posting spam, harassing, or anything else against the rules, your commenting membership will be revoked.
Right Now
Right now, comments are going to be open for all of the articles I have added in the last few days. The comments sections for older articles will roll out slowly over the next week or so. If there is an older article you really want to comment on, let me know and I will move it up the list.
Future No Comment Articles
You will occasionally see an article which will have a note listed at the end about no comments on the article. There are certain article which will appear which do not require commenting or the comments are closed for some reason. This will be rare, and will be on a case-by-case basis.
