NYCC Tweets – My Thoughts on the Subject

I am discouraged by the fact that the biggest talk coming out of New York Comic Con this year is about the NYCC tweets. Multiple fans have complained that their Twitter accounts were “hijacked” by the convention and posts were made without approval.

Apparently, the badges for NYCC have RFID chips in them which can link to fan’s social media accounts. The issue comes in the fine print in which fans sign over the ability to post to social media. The NYCC tweets are made by the convention and appear that the fans in question are enthusiastic about being at the convention. The convention claims that the NYCC tweets are something which the fans in questions opted in for. Fans are not excited.

If This Happened to Me

If I were at a convention or event at the promoters somehow took over my account, I would not be happy at all. I hope for the sake of the convention circuit and lifestyle that this does not become a popular trend. Hopefully, the anger over the NYCC tweets sends a message not only to NYCC, but to every convention and event around the country about taking over social media and small print.
