Thoughts on New Flash TV Series on The CW

So The CW is looking at the possibility of having a  new Flash TV series. Barry Allen is going to be introduced this season on Arrow, and will gain his own spin-off if everything goes right. What are my thoughts on a new Flash TV series? [More about that here]

A new Flash TV series? Ok.

A new Flash TV series? Ok.

Haven’t We Done This Before?

Ok, there has been a Flash TV series before, but it should not deter creators from having a new one. I have to admit that I liked the original Flash TV series. There have been multiple Superman shows over the years, but the fact has not prevented future shows from doing well. There have been multiple Batman animated series, but we welcome each new one with open arms. Well, er…not Beware the Batman. Ok, there can be exceptions.

The Greatest Challenge for a New Flash TV Series

I see the greatest challenge in a new Flash TV series is the introduction of his rogue’s gallery. While I think Barry Allen’s Flash is a great character, most of the rogues in his gallery are over-the-top when it comes to shtick. The casual viewer might look at characters such as Captain Cold, Captain Boomerang, and the Weather Wizard and laugh. Of course, a character like Reverse Flash would be awesome for the show, but there can’t simply be one villain.

Second Greatest Challenge for New Flash TV Series

The blur when The Flash is moving quickly is going to be difficult to pull off. Of course this is something easy to do with technology, but pulling it off to where it looks good will be a challenge. If it looks good on the new Flash TV series, it will pay off many times over.

Third Greatest Challenge for the New Flash TV Series

Dominance. Another challenge of a new Flash TV series is going to be dominance of Arrow. There are more fans of The Flash than of the Green Arrow. While The CW is going to want a hit with a new Flash TV series, they don’t want to drown out their other shows. It will be interesting to see how the network deals with these issues.
