News recently broke that IDW Publishing has created a new division, IDW Entertainment, to work on getting IDW Publishing properties on TV. I see this as a strong move and believe all comic book publishing companies should look into having similar divisions.
Why TV?
The Walking Dead, Arrow, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are only the tip of the iceberg. Marvel and DC Comics have both recently stated that they are looking into having more shows on TV, why shouldn’t there be a space for IDW Publishing? Zenescope has been pushing for a TV series for well over a year, it is time that some of the other companies stepped up to the plate. The advertising dollars and extra exposure could shift the market considerably.
Why Now?
It makes sense for IDW Publishing to get into the comic book-based TV market now since it is still in infancy. Next year would be too late.
