All of us at Wonderworld Comics were happy to see the episode of Hardcoare Pawn featuring Dennis Barger and the Silver Surfer. The episode ended the mystery surrounding the Silver Surfer’s presence. I would like to take a moment to give you a little bit of the backstory of the episode.
Dennis Barger with the cast of Hardcore Pawn and the Silver Surfer
First Contact
The producers of Hardcore Pawn contacted Dennis because of his presence in the local geek community to see if he had any items they could feature on the show. They knew Dennis is a leading expert in the area on pop culture and comics and that his personality would make him a perfect fit for the show. Dennis informed them of a few items we had in the store and warehouse which might interest them, and the decision was made to work out a deal with the Silver Surfer which has decorated the front window of our Detroit area comic book store (in Taylor) for five years.
What Happened on Hardcore Pawn?
Dennis met with Seth and Ashley in American Jewelry and Loan on Hardcore Pawn about selling them the Silver Surfer from our front window. Tough negotiations went back and forth until Dennis was ready to walk out the door without making a deal. Les stepped in and offered Dennis more money and saved the deal before Dennis made it to the front of the shop.
Big Question – Is it Scripted?
I know you are wondering if the entire situation on Hardcore Pawn was scripted. The only part previously discussed was roughly how much Dennis wanted for the Silver Surfer for the producer’s sake. Dennis was not handed a script or prompted on what he should say.
How Can I See the Silver Surfer Episode of Hardcore Pawn?
Of course you could wait for the episode to rerun, or you could check it out on OnDemand or through whichever video on demand service you use. You can also check it out on TruTV’s website by following this link. You can even see a shortened version of Dennis’ spot on Hardcore Pawn with the Silver Surfer here.
What Now?
Instead of having the Silver Surfer in our window now, we are now going to have a rotating front window display. Currently, the window is decorated with various toys and two pieces of artwork by Rock and Roll Speed Painter Dave Santia. There will be something else very special in the window very soon.
Warning!
I watched the episode on OnDemand in HD. At one point, there was a close-up of Dennis’ face. My 5-year-old daughter ran screaming from the room yelling “Too much Dennis! Too much Dennis! He is Big Brother!” (yes, my daughter does know Orwell). Just be careful because HD Dennis might scare small children.
