My Early Thoughts on Gotham TV Series

Word has come out that Fox and DC Comics have launched Gotham, which will follow Commissioner Gordon in his days on the force before meeting up with Batman. I have mixed feelings about the series.

No Batman…But Villains

Gotham will not have Batman, but it will have the villains which have made the superhero famous for generations. This aspect, for me, makes the series interesting. The villains are part of what makes the comics strong, and hopefully will translate well to the small screen.

Birds of Prey

A story which takes place in Gotham without Batman? Why is it that I can’t stop thinking of Birds of Prey when I think of Gotham? I am sure Gotham will not be as bad as its predecessor, but the stigma still exists in my mind.

Which Versions of Villains?

We have seen many versions of the DC Comics villains over the years. Let’s take a look at Joker, for example. He has been a prankster, a slapstick clown, a rapid killer, and (most recently) a dark character who could not care less about anything other than causing fear and tormenting those he does not like. Which version will we see in Gotham? Fans of either of the versions are sure to have some bit of disappointment.

We will have to wait and see how Gotham plays out. Hopefully, my concerns will come to pass. Check back in the next few days to see my ideas about Constantine.
