Marvel’s Avengers Assemble is going to be hitting the small screens in a matter of months, but I am not interested in seeing it. I do not have high expectations for the show and do not see the show gaining the cult following like many of the animated superhero shows from over the years have gained. I see Avengers Assemble becoming a footnote quickly.
Two-Year Shooter
Many of the animated shows from Marvel in the last decade have been little two-year shooters. Most recently, Marvel cancelled Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes after only a run of two years. How can we, as fans, get behind a show when we can see that Marvel’s track record is to cut shows down once they take off?
Avengers Assemble Again?
Going back to Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the show was fantastic and should not have been cancelled. By merging the old storylines into a new environment, Marvel created one of the best animated series it ever had. The show should only have been replaced by another season of the same offering. If you cancel one of my favorite shows, don’t expect me to fall in line with a new one like Avengers Assemble.
Merchandising?
Note that Ultimate Spider-Man was out for almost two years before the merchandising began. Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was out for two years and Marvel did not release a toy line from the series. If the company is going to start missing the boat on a regular basis with marketing to children, why should I get behind a new show? It shows lack of faith by the entertainment company.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Marvel has wanted a foothold in primetime for years. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and any shows which this potential hit might spawn will toss Avengers Assemble further back. If Marvel can have the cream frosting, why worry about the dry cake going with it?
