The Walking Dead #115 Sells 350,000 – Image Deflates DC Comics

So Image sets the pedal to the metal straight out of the gate this month with The Walking Dead #115 selling 350,000 copies (according to a USA Today). We talked about how DC Comics, Marvel, IDW Publishing, and other publishers would fight in the September War. DC Comics took September but Image is making the biggest impact in October.

When the first season of The Walking Dead was coming out, that was all anyone was talking about. Comic book publishers knew they were going to have a heck of a time getting any air time with Image’s The Walking Dead hitting the small screen. Thus, we had the birth of the September War with DC Comics launching the New 52 a few years ago. Every year, publishers have tried to pull out the stops to make sure Image did not simply have a “walk-on” during October.

This Year is Different

Not only do we have The Walking Dead Season 4 premiere this weekend, we had The Walking Dead #115 crush the competition this year with the highest-selling book of the year. Of course, the multiple covers added to the hype, but that does not matter when talking about the top selling book of the year.

Two in a Row?

DC Comics is on a huge high coming out of September. Even though the month was darkened and asterisked due to the Villain Month allocation, the DC Comics numbers were huge. Image easily deflated the DC Comics balloon heading into New York Comic Con this weekend. Sure, DC Comics had the big month last month, but Image is having it this month and will be able to brag that it had the highest selling comic of the year two years in a row (remember The Walking Dead #100 last year?).
